Buying A Gift Card Through Gift Card Granny
Gift Card Granny has some features that other gift card purveyors lack. For one, you can check out as a guest rather than save all your information . And while you’re more limited in gift card denominations with Gift Card Granny, you have the option to give e-gift cards to people, much like if you were purchasing through the retailer’s website itself.
But unlike with CardCash, the savings are not upfront. You earn cash back on your purchases, though you must create an account to collect it. But that’s not all — you must earn a minimum of $5 cash back to redeem for gift cards, and a minimum of $10 to redeem for cash. Unless you find yourself buying gift cards frequently or at high prices, this isn’t a great route for savings.
Security, though, is a benefit here. When I received the e-gift card, I had to click through from my email to the Gift Card Granny website and input my email address to retrieve the gift code. This helps prevent hackers from accessing your gift card through your email. Gift Card Granny also has a “100% Lifetime Guarantee” on its gift cards. The site claims you’ll never have to worry about your purchased gift card losing value or expiring, but the wording is vague.

Why Doesnt Meijer Sell Amazon Gift Cards
The answer is ultimately simple. Meijer views Amazon as a direct competition. These two companies vie for the same customers.
Meijer sells their own gift cards.
They also sell a variety of other gift cards for use at places that arent in direct competition with Meijer.
Walmart is the same way. Walmart doesnt sell Amazon gift cards either. It doesnt make sense for retailers to offer gift cards for purchase to use with a direct competitor.
Regift The Card To Family And Friends
The old adage, A penny saved is a penny earned still rings true today. Using our forefathers wisdom, give the gift card to your family member or friend as a gift.

First, Id always suggest checking multiple sites to research the different offers youll get.
Second, Id consider selling the card directly to a family member or friend. If you can do so in a way that will get you as much or more than selling to one of the sites listed above youll potentially get three benefits:
- Sell your card locally and quickly
- Get more money for the card
- Do a favor for a loved one

Can You Use Amazon Gift Cards At Target
No, you cannot use Amazon gift cards at Target or on Targets website.
When youve bought a gift card, youre giving the company whose name is on the gift card money in advance for something to be purchased from their store.
There are two types of gift cards: closed loop and open loop.
Gift cards that are tailored to particular stores are typically closed loop gift cards, meaning their store is the only place you can spend it.
Some closed loop gift cards still work at other stores because the two or more stores are owned by the same people, such as Babies R Us and Bed, Bath, & Beyond.
American Express and Mastercard gift cards are examples of open loop gift cards.
These can be used like cash, as long as the store has a card reader.
These companies earn their profit from the activation fee, which typically is around $5.
People who are not used to using a digital wallet or gift cards may find they are harder to use than physical gift cards.
It is much easier to lose a digital gift card in a sea of emails than it is to lose a thin piece of plastic that fits in any wallet.
Despite the hassle, digital gift cards are becoming increasingly popular.

Video: Top 5 gift card scams
Operated by its founders since 2009, CardCash has been unscathed by the blights plaguing the BlackHawk Network. CardCash is best when you’re buying for yourself and want to score extra savings: You can buy partially used or unused gift cards for amounts over $10. The interface is intuitive and tells you the percentage you’ll save on each discounted gift card. For example, I saved 1.8% of the value of a $25 Home Depot e-gift card by paying $24.55 for the $25 value. Just note that once you add a product to your cart, you have 20 minutes to check out or your selection may not be reserved.
CardCash offers a 45-day money-back guarantee on all purchases if something goes wrong with the gift card value. You also have the option of paying with BitPay. When I finalized the purchase, I was notified it would take up to 24 hours to receive my gift card in my inbox, but I received it almost immediately. The gift card itself came in the form of an email attachment.

Whats The Best Way To Exchange Amazon Gift Cards For Cash
Well, I dont think there is one best way.
It all depends on your situation, how much the GC is worth, how fast you need the cash, etc.
That said, there are a few ways you can get cash for your unwanted Amazon GC or any other kind of gift card for that matter.
Here are a few options:
1. Use Reddit
Reddit actually has a dedicated subreddit for gift card exchanges where you can trade unwanted gift cards for cash or other gift cards.
If you are not a member of Reddit yet, youll need an account first. Its free.
Then simply visit /r/giftcardexchange, create a post with some details about your card, its worth, how much you want for it, etc. and wait for other redditors to respond.
You can also use a subreddit called /r/barter.
On this subreddit people normally barter for tangible goods rather than gift cards and gift certificate codes. But you may be able to find someone who will be willing to pay cash for your Amazon gift card.
2. Buy Stuff for Friends/family and Get Cash in Exchange
Ask your other friends or family members if they need stuff from Amazon. If they do, buy it for them and have them give you the equivalent amount in cash.
And if you dont have a friend or family member who needs $500 worth of stuff, perhaps you could find a few people who may each need $50-$100 worth of stuff.
3. Sell a $500 Amazon Gift Card for $520 on eBay!
Not only you can sell your Amazon GC, but apparently you can sell it for more than its face value!
4. Sell It on Craigslist
Sell To Family And Friends
I talked a little bit about this in the Facebook section, but you always have the option of sending out a group email or text to family or friends and asking them if theyd like to buy your Amazon gift card.
Most everyone does at least some shopping through Amazon, and most everyone likes to get a deal.
I used this method a few years ago for selling a gift card from a local department store. Id received the card as a gift, but it was from a department store I never shopped at. I decided to send a text to a bunch of family and friends telling them I had a $30 gift card I would sell to them for only $25.
You can bet your bottom dollar the card was snatched up in a matter of minutes. My moms friend was SO excited to get a $5 savings for shopping at her favorite store!! Cash in hand for me, good deal for her.
With a gift card for a store like Amazon, youll likely have a much broader potential selling pool than I did too, and so I would expect the card would go quickly.

A Checkered History Of Gift Card Companies
First, some history. A lot of gift card sales and arbitration companies have struggled financially and shut down over the last few years. In some cases, like that of The Plastic Merchant, many customers were left with uncompleted transactions and lost their money permanently when the company officially . Much mystery surrounded the ordeal, but not much could be done without consumer protections in place to protect gift card customers. Even the attorney general for Missouri declined to interfere.
Then there’s the BlackHawk Network, which has its hands all over most things “gift card.” You know those physical gift cards for sale in your local grocery store, maybe conveniently near the checkout? BlackHawk Network is responsible for that integration, a concept it launched back in 2001. Since then, the company has had an impressive history of acquiring gift card exchange and sale websites, but its overall record is spotty. Over the last several years, BlackHawk has left a trail of defunct gift card websites, including CashStar, CardPool and Gift Card Lab, and its remaining sites — including GiftCards.com and GiftCardMall — are not kept entirely updated. BlackHawk’s level of investment in those remaining websites appears low, and whether their customers will see the fate of Cardpool or The Plastic Merchant remains questionable.
Selling A Gift Card Back To The Store
It’s safe to buy retailer gift cards directly from retailers, but what about selling them back? Most retailers will accept a return on a gift card if you have the receipt and the gift card hasn’t been used. Not many will accept a used gift card, however. In some cases, state law may allow you to redeem gift cards with small amounts left on them for cash, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.
In California, you can generally redeem a gift card with the retailer for cash if it has $10 or less left. If there is $5 or less left on your gift card, you can generally redeem it for cash value in Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Montana, New Jersey, Oregon, Puerto Rico and Washington. And if there is $1 or less left, you can generally redeem it for cash in Rhode Island and Vermont.

Giving And Receiving Gift Cards As Gifts
If you get or give a gift card, here are some steps to follow:
- Buy gift cards from sources you know and trust. Avoid buying gift cards from online auction sites, because the cards may be counterfeit or stolen.
- Inspect a gift card before you buy it. Check that none of the protective stickers have been removed. Make sure that the codes on the back of the card havent been scratched off to show the PIN number. Report any damaged cards to the store selling the cards.
- Keep the receipt with the gift card. Whether youre giving or getting, try to keep the original purchase receipt, or the cards ID number, with the gift card.
- Read the terms and conditions of the gift card. Is there an expiration date? Are there fees to use the card, or for shipping and handling? Will fees be taken out every time you use the card, or after it sits unused for some period of time?
- Use the card as soon as you can. Its not unusual to misplace gift cards or forget you have them. Using them early will help you get the full value.
- Treat gift cards like cash. If your card is lost or stolen, report it to the cards issuer immediately. You might not get back the money left on the card or you might get some, perhaps for a fee. You might need to show the receipt and the ID number on the card. Most issuers have toll-free telephone numbers you can call to report a lost or stolen card find it on the card or online.
